Have you always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to try scuba diving, but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you. We offer this program at our beach location across from Cozumel Hotel & Resort. This introductory course to scuba, otherwise known as a “Resort Course” or “DSD”, is a 2-3 hour first experience in Cozumel’s legendary clear waters. While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.

What's Included

Activity Inclusions:
• Use of Dive Paradise rental equipment during class: mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), dive gauges and an 80 cu ft tank.
• Tank substitutions: 60 cu ft (complimentary) or 100 cu ft ($220 MXN Pesos upgrade) available upon request.

Add-On Boat Dives

Following this course, students can hire a private instructor to go on a boat dive trip! On-island upgrade only:
1 boat dive: $100
2 boat dives: $150

Additional Information

• Minimum Age: 10 years old.

• No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary, but you need to be in reasonable physical health.

• Discover Adaptive Scuba (for guests with disabilities) is taught by an Instructor specializing in adaptive scuba diving, and includes an additional in-water Divemaster buddy/escort and on-land transfer assistance.

• Strong currents and waves occasionally require cancellation of Adaptive DSD shore dive courses, for safety considerations.

If you love your shore dive with us, you are on your way to completing your first certification! Have your instructor sign your booklet, and your shore dive will be a credit towards completing the Open Water course.

Detailed Scuba Dive Class Itinerary

You will initially breathe off SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) in 3-4 feet of water off the shore. As the comfort level increases, you will be taken to a depth of about 12 feet where several basic exercises are practiced. The experience most often culminates with an instructor/supervised fun dive to about 20 feet.

If you decide to continue into a full certification course, the price paid for this course will be applied toward the cost of full certification through Dive Paradise.

Discover Scuba Diving Overview

You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI/SSI Professional. If you make an open water dive, you’ll practice a few more skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure.

Get ready to:

• Go over the scuba equipment and how easy it is to move around underwater with your gear.
• Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater.
• Learn key skills that you’ll use during every scuba dive.
• Have fun swimming around and exploring.
• Learn how you can become a certified diver through our PADI Open Water Diver course.
